Have a Great Day to all!
we all have started photography as amateurs, doesn’t matter how far came till today and how awesome our images are. beacuse Every pro was once a beginner. so today I’m gonna talk about most common mistakes we do when doing landscape photography.
1. Not understanding the Gear
Once we bought a camera it quite difficult to operate, and bit hard to understand its options. so what we do is we just start to complain about the camera as it’s not good as reviews, or as my friend says. whatever it is the first thing you should do is read the User Manual comes along with the camera, most of throw it out, and we never wanted to open it again. But Hey! you got everything on it. what your camera can do and how does it works, from very basics it’s clearly explained inside the User Manual. So cool down and read it.
2. Skipping Manual Mode
when a camera in hands we all like to take pictures, and we start clicking whatever we see in front of our eyes. The truth is The backyard is the place we all started photography by taking pictures of all trees, flowers and butterflies. so when we’re taking pictures and looking after them we notice some are blurry and some are very dark and some are over exposed, but we don’t understand how it happened.
The main reason for that is not using correct settings, because camera doesn;t know what is in front of the lense, it’s just getting setting automatically through the sensors and it’s doesn’t work better always. so that’s why we have a manual mode in the camera. so start using it, adjust ISO,Aperture, Shutter speed by yourself that’s the only way to understand what happening when you change them.
3. Tilted Images
most of the time this happens because we’re too careless or too excited to take pictures and that cost your photo in a very bad way. I always see these mistake on images, the Horizon is tilted and it effect the whole images. so always try to take correctly aligned images. let’s see how we can do it on site ?
- Using in camera Spirit Level or Hot shoe bubble spirit Level
Nowadays in camera spirit level available on most of the camera models, and it’s very simple to use it. if it’s not available you can buy a hot shoe bubble spirit level which very easy to find, and it’s even very cheap in ebay.
now let’s talk how to align images which is already tilted.
if your image is tilted it’s very simple to correct it. but you’ll lose some pixels by doing this. just open your lightroom and follow methods as mentioned below.
just go to Menu and Develop > Crop Tool and the click on Auto sometimes it works fine but if not click on the angle as you can see on the below image and make a line on horizon. it’s simple as that.
4. Not using a Tripod
Stop being lazy & carry a tripod wherever you go to take pictures. a tripod is the most important part in photography especially when do long exposures, Night/Astro photography. so when you want to do something do it right.
as well you can try HDR images by using a tripod. also as we talk earlier it’s easy to use spirit level on live mode when camera is on a tripod, so again you don’t want to worry about tilted images.
Also when you use a tripod camera is more stable and it helps you to take more sharp images than handheld images and that’ll be no more blur images.
5. Not shooting RAW
Simply a RAW image is an uncompressed unprocessed images. it has each and every details you need. yes, it takes lot of space from memory cards & it takes time to buffer but, never stop taking RAW Photos.
I know You may taking JPEG’s instead of RAW, but JPEGS are processed in camera and you can’t have more details from it. The brightness, contrast & Detail level in a RAW is always amazing. so get enough storages with you & shoot RAW.
6. No Proper Plan
we should have a plan when we go out with a camera. plan your place and the time and be there with right equipments, so you can get the better results. as well don’t forget to get in touch with the Weather conditions as it plays a big role in photography. also follow the timing of sunrise/sunset and golden/ Blue Hour, as that’s the most beautiful time of the day.
