It’s not a lie if I say Bali is a Heaven for photographers. It is one of the most popular island for holidays & This island is a home to an ancient culture that’s known for its warm hospitality & good care.
When we talk about Bali, its Historical & Exotic temples and palaces set against stunning natural moods in the background are some of its top attractions. it’a also known for night life which offering exciting clubbing and ultimate dance floors. Bali is surrounded with volcanoes and virgin forests welcome you with cool breeze and rain drops.
Bali is also a paradise for surfers and all beaches are fully filled with teenagers and young couples. Since I am sri lankan who’s trying to new perspective in Bali I didn’t find a huge different in weather compare to Sri Lanka, yet it has some epic waterfalls I found more beautiful.
Just before I travel to Bali I make sure that everything is pre planned as it’s a 8 days long trip. So I use google to find some view pints to shoot Specially for volcanos and also for seascapes. so after doing research since more than two weeks I made a list of 6 places to shoot, not only in Bali with Borobudur in Yogyakarta too.
First thing I did was getting GPS navigations of locations. so I picked few waterfalls and 2 Volcanos and 2 places for Seascapes. I will write them as a list below. you can just type them in google map and will be easy to get the locations accurately.
- Kecak Uluwatu
- Tegenungan Waterfall
- Tukad Cepung Waterfall, Bangli
- Tibumana waterfall
- Tegallalang Rice Terrace
2. Nusa Penida
Nusa penida is an island away from Bali, to reach it you have to get a boat and there are many boat services available to go to Nusa penida. the first boat leave at 8.30 and the last boat is at 4.00 pm. so manage your timing according to the boat timings.
- Broken Beach
- Atuh Beach
As I said Bali is full of activities. once we landed to Bali first thing we did was a get a scooter to travel around. Because it’s so cheap and easy to travel and the cost per day for a bike is not more than 5 USD. unbelievable right! 😉
After spending a day in Bali we booked a boat to Nusa Penida and I got a wonderful Stay via Booking.com which is in the middle of the Island. The reason to book a hotel in the middle of island is, I wanted to travel both side of the island so if I am in the middle I will not need to travel from one end to another and that save lots of time.
So my most wanted location was Broken beach in Nusa Penida and The very next morning around 3.00 AM I left to Shoot the sunrise of the broken beach. As I said earlier I always use google map to get the location & Photopills helps me to get the perfect shot of blue hour, Golden hour and the sunrise.
I think I got the best shot of the sunrise, but while I was flying my drone ( DJI Mavic Pro ) through the that whole of the broken beach I crashed it. I still doesn’t understand why it crashed so I just sent my logs to DJI to find out what caused for the crash. it’s so unfortunate that I lost my all footage of the previous day and also the drone as it went deep inside the water. 🙁
I always beleive that if we want to execute a perfect shot we need to take risk. rather than keeping my drone inside a backback I took flew it, somehow If I managed get that shot it would have been ana amazing video clip. anyway I continue my jounery by ending my trip to nusa penida as it’s half done without the drone. I also skip the traveling to the other end to capture Atuh Beach as I had noo mood to stay in that island after the drone crash.
Capturing Borobudur with the sunrise is thge main part of my trip to indonesia, but I wasn’t lucky to capture that moment as that day was overcasted. Apart from that the ticket to this wonderful world heritage is so expensive compare to any of other locations. basically for nusa penida Island they got 10000 IDR, but for Borobudur it is 450,000/- IDR which equls to 33.00 USD.
Spending 33.00 USD for this historical Place isn’t an issue; but we have to face lots of difuclities even after paying that much amount of money is not acceptable. they allow every & each one who paid for ticket, actually the sunrise they shoud have allow limited number of tourists. at least 100 persons, As every man with a smartphone trying to get selfies and they even keep climbing on top of that statues which is very disrespectful.
somehow I managed to grab few wonderful clicks with the dramatic clouds in the sky and I moved out from the place after struggeling few hours.
The next big thing of the trip is getting some images of waterfalls and we travelled more than 1500 KM on bikes for that. Bali is a Tropical Island, the people of bali and their culture is amazing. they welcome tourist and they treated us very well. when my bike had a tire punch many unknowns guided to me to a clodest garage and helpd me to fix it ver fast.
Capturing wataerfall anywhere is very fun & relax. but in Bali it’s more than fun. you’ll see many people who’s posing in front of waterfalls. specially those travel girls. I just asked few of them to pose for me and they have posed like pro models.
