The New MacBook : A Photographers Perspective
Well! Last night apple launched its new MacBook with a Touch bar. We all know that apple always been a game changer & They always comes up with innovations.
So let’s see what they have introduced us.
- Touch bar
The touch bar is kind of a second display and it has been replaced those regular function buttons including the Escape Key. The touch bar will work with almost every apps on your mac and they introduced some handy shortcuts for Adobe Photoshop, Final cut & some other major software & apps.
- Touch ID
This is the best Part! I love this . It is Integrated into the power button. now you can quickly unlock your Mac, switch user accounts and make secure purchases with Apple Pay on the web with a single touch, same as your iPhone or iPad.
- Improved Display
- larger Force Touch Trackpad
so what are the other changes they have made ?
1. They have removed MegaSafe – Let’s say okay for that (Positive Thinking )
- Replaced the regular USB 3.1 port with USB-C ( A very bad idea )
Now you really need to carry a convertor with you as now you can’t even plug your iPhone to the new MacBook.
- No SD Card Reader – ( Are you serious ? ? )
Yes, they did. So as myself as a Photographer I would say this is the worst thing that apple did. So as mentioned above you need add a SD card reader which support USB-C.
We all know that apple has always been closed with Photographers. They really played a wonderful job there. Nikon, Sony, Canon, Fuji, Pentax, Olympus all are using SD card as their Storage. But apple just ditch it.
Personally! I feel so embraced for the changes of USB port and SD card. Just! If we could transfer photos off cameras wirelessly, we’d already be doing it and if they really want to get rid of both SD, USB they should have introduce a good wireless data transfer before ditch them suddenly. If this had an HDMI,USB and SD card ports, it might be possible to live with a sub-standard keyboard.
So as a photographer I use mac on sites. While I cover conferences, fashion shows even for Live concerts. Because I really keep my images safe once the SD card get filled and I do send pictures for media purpose as they want to update online. So by taking off all user friendly USB ports & SD card port they just gave us a thin mac which is really not necessary.
But they just proved that a thin MacBook is better than a multifunction MacBook. This might be a good computer but not a perfect one for sure. For me this is just a basic update and it’ll be good for those whose upgrading their Mac’s on every release.
Finally, what I have to say is This is product is a fail. So there isn’t any reason for an upgrade.
